Sift ("we," "us") is a job-search tracking and matching platform. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
What we collect
- Account information: name and email, via our authentication provider (Clerk). If you sign in with Google, we receive your basic Google profile (name, email) and, only if you separately grant it, permission to create and manage calendar events on your behalf.
- Job search profile: information you provide during onboarding — target job titles, salary expectations, work location preferences, seniority level, and related preferences.
- Resume data: the resume you upload, and information our systems extract from it (skills, work history, past roles) to power job matching.
- Job tracking data: jobs you save, apply to, or track through Sift, including notes, application status, and interview scheduling you enter.
- Contact/outreach data: any contacts you manually add for outreach purposes, and any messages you draft within Sift.
How we use it
- To match you with relevant job postings pulled from public job sources (including Adzuna, JSearch, TheMuse, Hacker News, Y Combinator's Work at a Startup, and public company career pages via Greenhouse, Lever, and Ashby).
- To generate AI-assisted content — job match scoring, tailored resumes, and cover letters — using a third-party AI provider. Relevant profile and job data is sent to that provider to generate this content.
- If you connect Google Calendar, to automatically create, update, or cancel calendar events when you schedule an interview through Sift. We only create/manage events related to interviews you schedule in Sift — we do not read, access, or store any other events on your calendar.
- For basic product analytics (aggregate, non-identifying usage patterns via Vercel Analytics) and error monitoring (via Sentry) to find and fix bugs.
Google user data
If you sign in with Google, we access your basic Google profile (name, email). If you separately grant Google Calendar access, we access only the ability to create, update, and cancel calendar events — we do not read, list, or access any other events, calendars, or data in your Google account.
How we use it: Google Calendar access is used solely to automatically create, update, or cancel a calendar event when you schedule, reschedule, or clear an interview within Sift. This is the only purpose for which we use this access.
Data sharing: We do not share, transfer, or sell any Google user data to any third party for any purpose.
Data protection: Google account data and access tokens are transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and managed through our authentication provider's secure token storage. Sift does not store your Google account password at any point.
Data retention and deletion: We retain only the minimal reference (the calendar event ID) needed to update or cancel an event you've scheduled through Sift. If you disconnect Google Calendar or delete your Sift account, we stop creating or managing calendar events and delete any stored event references.
AI and Google user data: Sift's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google user data — including any Calendar data — is never used to develop, improve, or train AI or machine learning models of any kind. Sift's AI features (job match scoring, resume tailoring, cover letter generation) operate only on the resume and job posting data you provide directly within Sift, never on Google Calendar or other Google account data.
What we don't do
We do not sell your personal data. We do not currently share your data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. If this changes in the future, we will update this policy and provide notice before any such change takes effect.
Data storage
Your data is stored in a Postgres database hosted via Supabase, with the application itself hosted on Vercel.
Data retention and deletion
We retain your account and data for as long as your account exists, so you can pick up where you left off if you return. If you'd like your data deleted, contact us and we will honor that request within a reasonable timeframe.
Your rights
You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us.
Cookies
We use cookies only for authentication (keeping you signed in via Clerk). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
